Request for SOCIOLOIGCAL PRACTICE
AWARD:
DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD FOR THE PRACTICE OF
SOCIOLOGY
This award honors
outstanding contributions to sociological practice. The award may recognize work
that has facilitated or served as a model for the work of others; work that has
significantly advanced the utility of one or more specialty areas in sociology
and, by so doing, has elevated the professional status or public image of the
field as a whole; or work that has been honored or widely recognized outside the
discipline for its significant impacts, particularly in advancing human welfare.
The recipient of this award will have spent at least a decade of substantial
work involving research, administrative, or operational responsibilities as a
member of or consultant to private or public organizations, agencies, or
associations, or as a solo practitioner. Nominations should include a one to tw

William Foote Whyte Award
William Foote Whyte Distinguished Career Award: The William Foote Whyte
Award is for individuals who have made notable contributions to sociological
practice, which can include several of the following elements: outstanding
clinical or applied work, exceptional service to the section, publications that
advance both the theory and methods of sociological practice, or mentoring and
training of students for careers in sociological practice. Nominations should
consist of a letter detailing the nominees contributions and supporting
materials such as a curriculum vitae or resume, and/or additional letters of
support. Please send nominations by March 31, 2007 to the section chair kajrouch@emich.edu
Student Practitioner Award
The Student Practitioner Award is for a promising effort, contribution, project, or paper by a graduate student in the area of sociological practice. Work done within the three years prior to the conferral of the award will be considered. Products of graduate-level classes, internships, or independent projects are eligible. An award recipient who attends the 2005 ASA Annual Meeting will receive a cash award of $200 to offset travel expenses. Nominations should consist of a letter detailing the nominees contributions, a copy of the paper or other project, and supporting materials such as a curriculum vitae or resume, and/or other additional letters of support.
